As a SIDEWAYS dancer, I cannot tell you how excited I am to perform Love Stories this weekend! I can’t believe it is already performance week, and I am looking forward to spending the week nights at 7 Stages Theater getting ready for the show. Today is our first day in the theater, and running the pieces in costume on stage really brings the show to life! We are so excited for the week ahead. Since I have the inside scoop, I’m going to share some reasons why you should be excited about coming to the show this weekend!
- The music! Charlotte is always good at picking music for the show, but Love Stories takes it to a whole new level. We will be grooving to musical artists that even make our favorite two-left-footed friends want to get up dance. There are songs we have all heard before, hundreds of times, and Charlotte has done a phenomenal job of weaving them together to create a story.
- Boys, boys, boys! I guess what I really mean, is guest performers. Love Stories is bringing in two phenomenal guest artists, and lucky for us they are men. I haven’t danced with this many guys since pas de deux class in high school. Chris Coates and Trey Mitchell are joining us from New York City, and each of them brings a different style and character that adds perfectly to the show. You can’t do a show called Love Stories without men, and these two are a perfect addition to the cast!
- Jeremy and Mary Ann’s Foxtrot. SIDEWAYS’ favorite on stage dynamic duo are back at it again. We’re used to seeing them as Mom & Dad in Once Upon A Holiday. In Love Stories, they portray a couple who are just falling in love, and it is one of the cutest dances I have ever seen. The choreography is intricate, playful, fun, and genuine. You can’t help but smile while watching the two of them dance together.
- The Stories. I may sound a little cliche here, especially since the show is called Love Stories, but hear me out. Love Stories has three different sections. The first is about family, and in our family I play the oldest sister. In real life, I share the baby slot with my twin sister, so playing the oldest sister is a fun change. I get to be a mentor to my siblings while still knowing that Mom & Dad love me best (just kidding!) The second section is about romance. Our romance section is filled with vignettes that show love at different stages, whether we are just falling in love, or have been in love for years. The final section of the show is about friendship. In the friendship section I get to have fun with my friends, I get to be a mean girl and turn on my friends, and I eventually find friends that I can stick with for life. As a dancer, Love Stories is rewarding because I get to play so many different characters!
I know everyone is going to enjoy the journey we take them through in Love Stories! The show will be enjoyable for all audience members, whether they are dancers, non dancers, young or old. Come out and see the show this weekend, June 20 – 22 at 7 Stages Theater. The show is at 8 p.m. on the 20th and 21st, and at 3 p.m. on the 22nd. I can’t wait to see you there!
