Dance is a wonderful form of expression, and SIDEWAYS workshops and masterclasses give students the tools to create their own art! SIDEWAYS can help introduce students of all ages and ability levels to the art of dance through performance and interactive programs that will keep students interested and involved. We have a couple of different ways to bring dance into your school and make it accessible for your students.
Our Everyone is an Artist program is for students of all ages and ability levels. In this workshop, students learn how photographs or text can be used to create new and interesting movement. Students learn techniques of dance composition such as shape, space, weight, time, energy. They will use their photograph or their text to create a shape, and then vary it with the different elements of space, weight time and energy. Next they combine their movements with group members to create a dance! This teaches student how to expand on their own ideas, and also how to work as a team to create something new! The wonderful thing about the Everyone is an Artist program is that all students can participate. SIDEWAYS has seen new dancers succeed in creating movement while having fun and learning about dance!
For dance studios or schools that have a more specialized program, SIDEWAYS can come teach master technique classes. Our dancers have experience teaching contemporary, ballet, modern, ballroom, and jazz styles. After learning technique, students can also learn SIDEWAYS choreography in a repertory based class, or they can participate in a composition lab to develop their own creative skills. At the end of the composition lab, students can perform what they have created for their fellow classmates!
